Noorda College of Osteopathic medicine is seeking a Staff Scientist who will support the development of a productive, externally funded research program within Osteopathic Medicine! This role manages day-to-day laboratory operations, advances research productivity, supports grant and manuscript development, and mentors students, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and lab personnel. The ideal candidate is a collaborative research professional with strong grant writing experience, a record of scholarly productivity, and a passion for student involvement in biomedical or health sciences research.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage laboratory operations, research workflows, data gathering, reporting, and compliance with institutional policies and protocols.
- Train, mentor, and oversee lab technicians, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, medical students, and pre-matriculation students involved in research activities.
- Support research productivity through experimental work, data analysis, figure preparation, manuscript writing, and submission to peer-reviewed journals.
- Identify extramural funding opportunities and assist with preparing and submitting grant applications, including NIH or similar funding mechanisms.
- Develop and monitor research budget recommendations, expenditures, resource needs, and annual reporting requirements.
- Build collaborative research partnerships with internal and external partners at the local, regional, national, and international levels.
- Present research at professional conferences and contribute to institutional service, committee work, accreditation documentation, and college advancement activities.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in an appropriate health-related science required.
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required.
- Experience in grant writing required; NIH grant experience preferred.
- Demonstrated record of research productivity, scholarly writing, and effective research mentorship.
- Experience with research planning, budgeting, resource allocation, and collaborative project management.
- Preferred: experience preparing IRB and/or IACUC protocols and current or prior successful grant funding.
- The successful candidate will be highly professional, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and collaborative, with excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. This individual must be able to lead by influence, balance multiple priorities, maintain confidentiality, adapt to changing needs, and work effectively with students, faculty, staff, funding agencies, and external research partners.
